L’Alizé Roatan | The name explained

A Roatan vacation rental nestled above a private cove beach (locally called a “keyhole”) on the South shore of the tropical island of Roatan, this large luxury home, enjoys both a constant sea breeze and a dramatic view of the Caribbean.   L’Alizé derives its name from the French word for African trade winds, (alizés) which flow East to West during the warmest months of the year. These dramatic winds account for a such a surprising cooling effect on the hottest days, that it quickly becomes clear why Roatan’s earliest towns settled on the South side of the island where these winds rarely fail to cool and refresh while they keep the bugs in check. In January one guest wrote, “We toured the whole island and there isn’t a more beautiful property on Roatan.  I didn’t use any Deet and didn’t get a bite.”
