After 2020, the year of the international pandemic, there’s certainly a pent-up demand for travel.  Will 2021 be the year you travel to Roatan?  The approval and widespread distribution of Coronavirus vaccines is definitely a step in the right direction.  As long as the vaccine rollouts are able to continue smoothly, we may all be able to get back into travel mode in 2021.  There are several factors which point to a strong year for the travel and tourism industry in Roatan.  

Devastation Of The Travel Industry

It would be difficult to name an industry more negatively  affected by the pandemic than the travel industry.  Cruises have been virtually eliminated, airlines are mainly serving essential travelers and hotels and vacation rental homes have been hit with extra cleaning and security costs while their bookings have plummeted.  Those who have traveled in 2020 have mainly done so with trepidation and worry – hardly the ideal conditions for a relaxing vacation.  But it looks like 2021 will be a year of recovery for travelers and the businesses that service them.

Vaccine Authorizations

One of the biggest signs that the pandemic may eventually come under control is the approval and authorization of vaccines meant to provide protection against the Coronavirus.  Vaccination rollouts have already begun in North and South America, Europe, the Middle East and beyond.  Near the tail end of 2020, more than a dozen countries had already introduced vaccination programs for their citizens.  And while there are staggering numbers of people who will need to be vaccinated for an effect to be appreciable, the simple fact that the programs have begun before the year is out bodes well for the travel industry in 2021.

Travel Discounting

Because the travel industry has been so badly affected by the disruption caused by the pandemic, you can be certain that they’ll be enticing wary travelers with heavily discounted pricing.  And although these reductions in cost won’t last forever, those who act first will benefit the most.  If you hope to travel in 2021, now is the time to be signing up to travel-associated email lists to learn about discounts and other specials as soon as they’re introduced.

Rescheduled Vacations

Another reason why 2021 is looking like a banner year for the travel industry is the number of rain checks and travel vouchers that will need to be redeemed.  Not everyone was able to be refunded for their cancelled travel plans in 2020, but rather than losing out completely, many travel industry related businesses allowed t travelers to push their holidays forward by a year or more. Travelers will be keen to use up their vouchers before they expire and 2021 will be the likely beneficiary.  

Doubling Down On Travel

For those who didn’t have travel plans in 2020 canceled, the pandemic has provided a new understanding of the fleeting nature of our existence.  Putting things off into an uncertain future may mean they never actually happen.  And nowhere is this more apparent than when it comes to bucket list destinations.  For this reason, it’s very likely that 2021 will see people who have never held a passport getting out and visiting the places they’ve dreamt about their entire lives.  If the pandemic has shown us anything, it’s that we need to make the most of the opportunities that we have.
